Stress & Growth Arrows

Under Stress → Type 9

The Three's high-octane engine stalls. To avoid pain of failure or shame of not being enough, they numb out. Disengage from goals and partner, sliding into apathy and conflict avoidance.

Warning Signs

  • Sudden drop in productivity and grooming
  • Refusal to engage in relationship maintenance conversations
  • Emotional detachment and lack of future planning
  • 'It's fine, whatever you want' resignation

In Growth → Type 6

The Three drops competitive mask and embraces cooperation. Shifts focus from 'Me' (my success) to 'We' (our security). Realizes loyalty and vulnerability are stronger than solitary achievement.

What Partners Can Do

  • Use 'we' language: 'We are in this together'
  • Constantly reinforce love for them, not their awards
  • Be the one place they don't have to spin failure as success
  • Celebrate collaboration over competition
Attachment Style Tendency

Primary

dismissive avoidant

Secondary

secure

May appear Secure through charm and social adeptness, but this is performance. Deactivates when true intimacy requires exposing flaws.

Healthy 3s integrate genuine vulnerability and become Secure. Unhealthy 3s are Pseudo-Secure performers who collapse to Anxious when they fail.
